Pure, natural light and the colors of nature are the driving forces behind my art.
To maintain the integrity and purity of my work, and for maximum sharpness, I shoot only with low ASA color slide film, never using color filters or darkroom manipulations to alter the images I compose in the viewfinder. My portfolio is a reflection of my ability to create imaginative, powerful images by combining my unique artistic perspective with technical proficiency. With expertise in both underwater and conventional photography, I bring a level of diversity not often found in professional fine art photography.
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology from California State University at Long Beach. Before becoming a professional photographer, I worked as a Sportfish Research Biologist for the California Department of Fish and Game and as a member of the Mammalogy staff at SeaWorld San Diego. My understanding of marine wildlife and animal behavior affords me a unique perspective in capturing unique moments in the wild, from condors in Patagonia to large predators in East Africa to Polar Bears on the tundra in Manitoba.
My background as a certified SCUBA diver, a surfer, and a competitive triathlete gives me the capability in the water to photograph giant waves on the North Shore of Oahu, schools of sharks in the Tuamotu Archipelago, virgin reefs in Micronesia and many other physically and technically challenging subjects around the world.
Have a look around, I hope you enjoy the work.
